Now, it seems like the show could be setting her up to be a bona fide villain. She breaks bad kind of in Ed Brubaker's Captain America #25, where she (SPOILER!) kills Steve Rogers, but that's only after being brainwashed by a psychiatrist who is in league with Red Skull and Doctor Doom. (and that's the good S.H.I.E.L.D., not the HYDRA-infested version from the movies). It certainly seems to be taking things in an interesting direction and diverting from decades of comics canon since her debut in March 1966's Tales of Suspense #75, Sharon Carter has never been anything other than a hero aligned with S.H.I.E.L.D. Does The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's credits scene make Sharon Carter an MCU villain? In fact, it sounds like something our pal Sam Wilson may have to deal with in the near future. Not to mention that the Sharon Carter we knew couldn't conceivably go this far in the other direction. But it also seems feasible that her superhero pals could have helped her out in some way. Yes, it makes sense that Sharon Carter might have been ousted by the U.S. With that, the question must be asked is Sharon Carter secretly a Skrull? Jackson's Nick Fury at the center of Secret Invasion, it might make sense for Sharon Carter to pop up in the show as well. The Skrulls were a huge part of the comics and they are expected to be a big part of the show. We already know that Ben Mendelsohn's Talos is returning.

A Secret Invasion series is in the works for Disney+. Skrulls, the shapeshifting alien race who can disguise themselves as anyone that were introduced in Captain Marvel, aren't done in the MCU just yet.
This is a hardened, shady individual who has become cutthroat and connected to big-time criminals. This is not Peggy Carter's buttoned-up "do the right thing" niece anymore. No longer allowed in the U.S., Carter started operating in the shadowy underworld of Madripoor. Following her participation in the events of that movie, she became a criminal and a fugitive. The Sharon Carter we catch up with in the series is not the same Sharon Carter we left off with in Captain America: Civil War.
